Message: The cruise control on my Dakota sport 4x4 v-6 works inconsistently.I will go up a long grade and have lost 11 mph and the cruise does not compensate. I will go up the same grade another day and it will downshift or attempt to give more fuel.No extra weight and same speed. The dealer and Chrysler are calling it a "design feature" and therefore it does not need to be repaired. The manual does not describe this design feature. Also the service dept. tried to repair it 3 times before I was told it is a "design feature". Any one else have the feature?

Message: Man these dealers are something.
Check the cable by the TB and be sure its not
hitting anything, grab the cable and move it
in and out of the housing. should move free
You can also check the vacume pot mounted on the
fire wall for a pin hole or leak also the hoses
that go to the unit amd all electrical connections
what its doing is not normal they just don't know
whats wrong or how to fix it but will not admit
that
There also needs to be about an inch of slack in
the cable by the TB
One other thing you can try is a computer reset
the electrical part is controled by the computer
and does have a learning curve.
If you always ingauge it with the throttle
depresed and excelerating, than every time you
inguage the cruse it will speed up a few miles
per hour.
If you always let off and inguage than it will
learn to slow a few miles per hour evrytime.
Check these few things and if it still does not
work right go to a better dealer with it
A bad TPS will also affect the cruse control.
If you have a volt meter go on the midle wire and
a good ground turn the key on don't start the
motor and open and close the throttle and watcth
the voltage.
It will start out anywhere from .45 to .7 and
go up to anywhere from 3.5 to 4.8
1 other thing the speed sensor on the tran's
also can affect it.
Just elimanate 1 thing at a time by checking

Thanks for the suggestions. I will have to get a mechanic to review your suggestions. I am not talented in that arena. I was thinking in the area of an atty. for lemaon laws.

Message: this is far from a lemon bud. If your dealer is giving you problems then call DC and tell them what you just told us. It won't take a mechanic to try larry's suggestions. No shame in being not mechanically inclined, but give it a try, might suprise yourself.

Message: if the truck is still under warranty, tell the dealership to replace the whole setup.if they refuse, contact your local BBB and report them, also call or write the crysler corp. and report the dealership.look in your manual, there should be a # or address to report to.you have to be firm with dealerships to get anything done.I know what im talking about because ive been through it.I know it sounds a bit drastic, but ugotadowatugotado.these people are out 4 the almighty dollar and couldnt give squat about you and your little problem. sorry, I kind of lost it there.

Message: If there is one thing I found out about Chrysler
dealerships is you nee to *itch louad enough and
long enough to get them off there a$$.
On the 2 they bought back from me I had to tell
them I was contacting my attorny and I actually
did contact him on the first one.
If they go to court or gett any bad write ups in
the news paper they stand a good chance of losing
one of there stars.
And that is the last thing they would ever want to happen

This is the history of the problem.
Initially, the vehicle was not shifting properly. It shifted hard, and unevenly. They tested and replaced the valve body. They also replaced the shifter cable and bracket. It shifted properly after those repairs. However, the cruise was not working properly. On the second attempt, the work order indicates "R & R Tran's. Pan & replaced governor pressure solenoid and transducer.
On the third attempt they set up cruise control template and attempted to make recordings. They could not duplicate the problem after 70 mi. of driving. They contacted Chrysler and informed me that Chrysler considered it a design feature. I informed the dealership I would be contacting my attorney. They informed me that Chrysler was the manufacturer and should be called.
I did contact Chrysler and they informed me the problem is a "design feature". They have informed the dealership to make no more attempts to repair it under warranty since it is not a probem.

What year is this truck, man I just can not
beleave what they are saying,
The cruse control was designed to lose speed
up hills, Not true all a cruse control is, is
a govenor and a govenor is designed to maintain
a constant speed or rpm.
Try a few things I mentioned and see if it changes
at all, just need to track the problem down by
eliminating 1 thing at a time

Message: mstern,
I have driven many 03's and none did that with
the cruse most will even downshift on a hill to
keep the speed up
Check a few of the things I said, I will hit the
books and see if I can come up with the things
you need to check tomorrow sometime,
I had my 2 pieces of toasted raison bread with
butter and grape jelly and this old man is ready
to go find his pillows now.
Do the reset by disconnecting your Neg. Battery
cable, now go in the truck and turn the key just
like you are going to start the truck and hold
the key all the way to start for 30 secs.
Now turn the key off and go reconnect your battery
cable take your truck for a ride and let me know
if there is any change at all with the cruse control
