Subject: High mileage exhaust smell IP: Logged
Message: I've been reading many post here tonight and I'm very impressed with the wealth of knowledge on this forum. By reading every page in this post, I will hopefully resolve my "help my '88 is dead" issue. I found many helpful ideas I will try tomorrow.
A couple of questions though!
The high mileage smell. I had a '89 Dodge camper van with a 318 with 136k on it and it smells just like my Dakota when at idel. Any suggestions on what this may be?
I heard reference to the following that I'm unclear on. The a/c getting carboned up? Is this the smog thing on the intake manifold drivers side below the TBI linkage?
Also the Camsensor and the trucks main computer. Where are these located. 1988 4X4 auto 3.9 143k
Thanks...
Bill

Message: The seet smell of burning oil at idle, in your
88 I would say your valve seals are shot.
Hard like rocks and the oil is going right by
into your combustion chamber.
You can usualy tell they will smoke when first
started and at idle
