Subject: Whistling and squealing....I need help

Ok. I'm hearing some whistling and squealing coming from my 2002 Dak V6 and it's driving me crazy. I'm getting:

1.) A squealing from what sounds like the belt or pulleys. I changed my belt to a Goodyear Gatorback and the idler pulley was also changed by the dealer. Alot of the major squealing went away but I'm still hearing some light squealing mostly when I decelerate and come to a complete stop. Any ideas?

2.) A whistling noise when I accelerate. As I go faster the whistling seems to get faster. One dodge dealer changed my power steering pump but this whistling/putting type noise is still there.

3.) I also noticed that ever since I put on the new gatorback belt, I hear a sound that I've never heard before. It sounds almost like a quieter version of when a bus accelerates. That revving type sound. It's hard to describe in words.

When I listen under the hood and hit the throttle it sounds like alot of the noise is coming from the power steering pump side of the engine.

I've been to 2 dodge dealers and no one can seem to fix it. One dodge dealer tells me that he is not going to go "fishng" for the sound because I have an aftermarket intake (which makes that intial sucking/whistling noise when started up that goes away after a couple of minutes) and an aftermarket belt. He tells me to put the old airbox back on and put a factory belt. They told me a new factory belt would cost $125. WHAT!!! Are they nuts?

I'm going crazy and getting pretty pissed off at dodge dealer that are incompitent.

Any advice/help/knowledge out there will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!!

you do realize of course that if you modify/change/replace something with non-stock parts and then something goes wrong most dealerships won't fix the non-stock parts. WAFM.

or the tensioner, if it is the belt making the
noise there is something not turning as free as
it should.

It could also be your intake or a small vacume leak

Hope this helps,

Ok. I did some more experimenting. I took out my cold air intake and put back the stock air box. This is what I noticed:

When I start the truck first thing in the morning there is no whistle. However, when I drive about 5 miles or so and the truck is nice and warmed up, the whistling starts. The longer I drive it, the louder it gets. After about 10 miles, it really starts. As I accelerate, the rate of the whistle increases. I hear it very, very much when driving along side a median or wall. I know I'm not going crazy and now I know it's not related to the cold air intake.

As far as the belt whistle, that too is not noticable first thing in the morning with a cold start. However, after about 10 - 15 miles, it starts to happen when decelerating taking my foot off the gas. Could it be that the gatorback belt is just not right for my Dak?

Any other thoughts or advice?
