Message: The swap wont be too bad...The auto tranny bolts right to the engine. No bell housing required. The auto has the bell housing built right on. I live in IA or I would do it for you...I need the money

Message: Should be a pretty easy swap....If you arent familiar with the lines, hoses and connectors, use some masking tape and a marker to label them. Also dont unhook the AC lines. Just unbolt the compressor and swing it out of the way. Put a jack under the tranny to hold it up, unbolt everything and out she comes. Good Luck. If you need any help feel free to email me.

Message: Yes you need the flex plate from the old motor and
it will all bolt right up.
You need it to bolt up the torque converter

Message: WARNING: Mark the flexplate location on the Crank output (mark the exact location, this will screw with your firing if you put it back on wrong). Take the Flex Plate off and hold it up against the Torque Converter and rotate it around the torque converter until all 4 holes line up, Once this is accomplished mark the location on the plate and converter also.
I wish somebody had warned me of this before I ended up with a headache, frustration and several busted knuckles trying to get all 4 bolts in the converter.
If you are changing from a Standard to an Auto you also need all the shift linkage under the Driver floorboard and will need some welding to get at least 1 of the brackets to the frame.
Personally more headache than benefit to change Manual to Auto unless you have a wrecked vehicle with all the pieces available.
Good Luck,

Message: Actually shank I dont think he is changing trannys. I think his replacement engine came from a 5-speed truck and his truck is an automatic. Thats the way I understand it. Yes I agree though, I have done an auto to manual swap and for my purpose(78 chevy) I actually benefited but it was a major headache.

Message: what Shank was saying was to be sure to get the Flexplate in the correct position. The magnum motor runs its timing via a crank position sensor that reads off of the flexplate. Your old chevy wasnt so complicated... in which this isnt if you take it in strides. The best thing to do is set the motor at TDC (top dead center) before you put that flexplate on.

Message: One of the brackets come off the frame to support the shift linkage for the Auto. If your changing from a standard I don't think this ear is on the frame.
If your changing from an Auto to a Stick your going to have to make the brackets for the clutch pedal.
Either way it's going to be more headache than benefit.

Message: i was cleaning this thing up before i drop it in.
what about the wiring harness on the new engine i should just be able to disconnect everything and use the exsisting one right. as long as i lable everything on the old engine before i take it off, i can match the plugs up to the new engine.
any suggestions. or will my idea work
thanks again

Message: Heres an easy method, just line up the TDC on both
motors mark the flex plate with a bell housing
bolt and bolt it on the new motor in the same
location.
But as far as I know they will only bolt up in 1
posision.
Sorrie I see Intence already told you that.
There should be no probs as long as they are both
3.9 mags everything is the same. You may want to
swap out your engine sensors from your old motor
engine temp coolent temp oil sender because you
know they work and its a lot easter when the motor
is out.
You never know the new motor could have a bad
sensor and than you will be mad if one of the
guages does not read right.
