Message: On my '88 4X4 I removed the plastic cover to the air intake behind the grill replacing it with a thick screen. To be honest I can't tell if it runs better or worse. It seemed like a cheap alternative to a K-N set for example. Anyone else try this with any knd of results pro or con?
Thanks

Message: Dakota 88,
How does that plastic cover come out? I don't see anything in my Haynes manual about the air intake cover. I thought I was going to see a rubber flap there, but I was surprised to see a cover. I don't see how it gets any air at all.
Anybody...
I want to put in some sort of K&N system that will look good and provide good air flow. Can I put in a chrome "air hat", like a 14x3 filter and get good air flow. If so, can you give me a link to a website and part #.
Thanks...
JK.

Message: its pretty simple to take it out..you just un screw the grill and all the attachments around it and then you just pop the plastic off..it should come right off because it just snaps on......as for being able to tell the difference i dont think you can tell much of a difference at all but then again you cant really tell a big difference when you buy a cold air intake either..

Ben,
Ok......so I have to take the grille off and get to it from the front. I thought i could access it from the back( engine compartment).
With the plate on.....I don't see how it gets any air at all.
Thanks....

yea through the grill..you could try it from the engine compartment but then your gonna find that you need to take the grill out anyway..and trust me you will get a lot of air flow after that, cause my k&n drop in used to be very clean untill i did that and now im always having to clean it out..

Ok......
I plan on taking the plate off tomorrow. I have a new filter in now, and will buy a K&N filter in the near future.
Why do you think it came stock with that 'restrictive plate"? There is not much of an opening there at all.
Thanks....

Wow... check that out, Larry offered him advice again! and as a Bonus: It was FREE, Informative, Helpful and a Very cheap Mod that improves air flow and the engine run better. Oh wait, I see another person offering his helpful advice also (ben)that hit the bullseye!
Dakota88, I apologize for flaming on your post but i'm very upset with another person on this thread.
