Subject: Slow off of the line?
IP: Logged

Message:
Why does my truck seem to be slow off of the line? Once you get going it has decent response but it is slow off of the line? It almost stumbles then goes. I have read about changing the voltage of the sensor and boring out the brass rings but I am not sure how to check the voltage. Where do I hook up the ends of the meter, how do I adjust it, etc.? A walk through would be wonderful. Also, does this help a lot or just a little? Thanks in advance.

Keith

Daddio,

I visited that page and it was super helpful. One thing I am still trying to figure out is where do I adjust the voltage at? I am not sure where to do that.

Thanks

once you drill out those bushings on the sensor and reinstall it leave the screws loose. reconnect the wires and measure voltage off of the middle wire on the sensor. if you turn the sensor counterclockwise your voltage will increase. i have mine set @ .755. please use a digital voltagemeter.
CAUTION: as the site says if it's close to .7vdc don't screw with it. mine was about .45vdc from factory.

OK, that sounds pretty easy. One more question, I bought a digital multimeter last night and checked it by putting the red indicator where the middle wire enters the sensor and the black indicator on a piece of metal for a ground and got a setting of .51. Is this the correct way to measure the voltage. I also checked it on the DC Voltage side not the AC Voltage. On last thing, how do I get those freakin' screws out. I couldn't get them and was almost at the point of stripping them. Thanks.

you're right on measuring the voltage. the screws are a little tough to get out. use a good TORX bit, T10 or T15 don't remember.

One quick note...When you reinstall the sensor dont tighten it too tight...If it is too tight the sensor wont read properly and it will cause your truck to run terrible and also mess with your Transmission shift points. I got mine too tight and I didnt have overdrive untill I loosened the screws a bit

After you mod the sensor turn the key on don't
start the engine put your volt meter on and open
and close the throttle a few times to be sure its
changing the voltage up and down.

I have seen people do this and than bring there
truck in and what they did was have the TPS just
off ceter a little and it would not return.

Just play with it untill it works well and avoid
the headake

Good spelling hey

Does this boggish syptom also happen after you are moving like flooring it of the line letting it rev up, than backing off to allow for a shift then right after it shifts to second for a split second there is another bog as you ease the pedal down a little more. I have that problem on my 91 v6. This scenario is basically a 0-40 around town accurance. It doesn't do it that bad all the time but I can always feel some sort of poor power curve. I have a bunch of new parts and it runs great other wise. good gas mileage and descent cruising power. thanks for any help

Thanks for the help Daddio & Larry. It was much esier than I thought and there is a definitely a noticable difference.

91v6champ - I do not have that problem, it was only at the initial go. But now that is gone.
