Subject: Guess what happened to my Dakota? IP: Logged
Message: Well I bought the v6 dakota quad cab sxt about two weeks ago. It was great for the first 500 miles until one night I was coming home from a job site and stopped on the turnpike to get something to eat. after eating quickly and hitting the restroom, I was ready to go when my new dakota wouldn't start. I was completely shocked! I had to call roadside assistance and get it towed! The dealer said the next day that everything was fine and the truck started right up for them. So I took it back from the dealer and the very next day it did it again to me. Again I had it towed to the dealer and they said it started right up for them. The service manager set me up with a rental and kept the truck for a week. They strted it everyday until the 5th day it didn't start for them. They checked the computer and sure enough it was shot. Now I still have the rental and they are waiting for the new PCM to come in. My question is, has anyone else had any problems like this?

Message: I forgot to mention that my truck is a 2003 Dakota Club Cab SXT with only 500 miles on it. I really hope it's just a problem from the factory and not a lemon. If anyone has any similar issues, let me know.
Thanx,
Don

Message: I had a new 94 that had that and would not move
when it was cold unless you stomped it to the
floor,
Finaly ended up computer problem and chrysler
bought it back, it had 6000 miles on it and ran
nice V6 5 speed with a 3.91 man talk about smoke
them, the tires were almost shot when they got
it back.
It took a lot of bitching to get them to do
something after it was there half a dozen time
or more, especialy when you go for coffee in the
morn get in the truck to go to work and it would
not start, pissed me off having to call someone
to get me.
I went out on the lot and picked out another truck
and drove it home.

Message: Ever buy, or hear of any one who did, a new computer that went bad soon after they got it home? IT HAPPENS. So your truck's computer went bad. Replace it. Probably won't happen again in 200,000 miles. No that does not make it a lemon. A Lemon is a vehicle that has had 2 or more problems fixed at least 3 times each in a year. I just don't believe the number of unmechanical people on here that think just because one thing went wrong soon after they got their new baby home that the car/truck is a lemon.

Message: Well... I have had my Dakota back for 2 weeks now, and no problems at all. The dealership said that something wasn't connected properly somewhere and the PCM got shorted out somehow. Anyway just thought you guys would like an update, have fun!

Message: Ah no biggie. It won't cost you a dime. The day after we got ours we had to take it back in because of a grinding coming from the transmission. All fixed in a couple days and didn't cost us a penny.
I love my truck, although I do wish we had opted for the v8. :)

Message: Probably built on a Monday or a Friday when a third of the workforce lays out of work.
I was working for GM back in the early 70's and ordered a new chebbie truck through the employee deal. If it was for an employee, the UAW guys usually made sure everything was particularly tight, the seats were overstuffed, etc.
I got the call from the dealer about four miles from where I lived at the time, telling me that it was in and I could come pick it up. I went right to the dealer, did all the paperwork, and headed out of the lot. Back in those days, they had vent windows, and I opened the driver's vent window - and it fell out on the ground in the parking lot and busted all to hell!
The dealer ordered a new one that came the next day, but I had to put it in. Then, twelve days after I picked it up, I had just turned onto the last stretch of road a couple miles from home, 1:00 in the morning (I worked 2nd shift in the body shop in Doraville, GA). Hit second gear and it sounded like it's guts were coming out. Rolled it into a neighbor's yard, called my wife to come get me.
Next morning, I called the dealer who sent a tow truck out, and I was waiting for him when he got there. Dealer accused me of having a heavy foot, which jacked my jaws something fierce because I'd been babying that truck. I hung around while they tore the transmission down - and it didn't have ONE SINGLE DROP of grease in it. And I'd driven it that way for 12 days!
Turned out that it got built on a Monday. I traded it for a Cuda not long after that.

Message: This is for all the cheer leader out there (dumberthanu) who find this kind of failure acceptable.Magnuson-Moss Act
A new truck is not a toaster or a power drill or a coffee maker. Failures of the kind mentioned here could be fatal under the wrong circumstances. Laying out large coin for a vehicle only to be told "it's broken so fix" is crap.
This isn't a rant against Dodge. I love my Daks. It's against 14 year old morons who claim to be smart. If you ever mouthed off to me in front of my face you would die right there and then.
