 Subject: 180 Stat with No Rubber Seal?

All-
Bought a HP 180 Stant Stat at Napa for my 03 Dak. I got a paper gasket as listed but no rubber surround on the stat.
Since I have not pulled the stat out yet (and before I do and can't drive the truck) wanted to see if I am supposed to have a rubber seal to go with the paper gasket?

3.9-5.2-5.9 use the paper gasket with permatex gasket sealer
4.7 reuse the factory rubber "O" ring
and you better have plenty of spare gaskets my 01 didn't like the 180* stat, truck ran like $hit till i changed it back
