Subject: Roller rockers. IP: Logged
Message: I found a set of roller rockers. They are in a Mopar package and the part # is P5249800 and it says "Rocker arm package 318/360" are these the infamous 1.7's that I want for my 97 3.9 ??

Message: P5249800 92 to 99 1.6 ratio not the 1.7's
Just look at either
Sams site
http://www.socaldakota.com/frame.htm
$350 including shipping
Ryans site
http://www.v8performance.com/rockers.html
$345 including shipping
Both good guys to deal with and the kit comes with
the studs the washers that go under the studs and
the rockers retaing nut and lock, everything you
need to install them except new valve cover
gaskets. they are around $27 and are reusable so
your old ones may be fine.
The 1.7's are one of the best mods you can do and
a very noticeable increase in power across the
entire rpm range starting around 1800 rpm.

Message: Is 1.6 the stock ratio? And will these 1.6s help at all?
These are rockers that my boss was going to use on his RT but never did. Considering I can have them for free if I want 'em, should I get 'em?

Message: The rockers will help a little by reducing
friction and heat.
Better than stock

Message: You can install them-- only the double nut to tighten the stud in is a joke---
1.6 ratio is stock ratio as J and J said... won't see/feel much of a difference.

I would do it just for the fact that they are roller. Escpecially if they are free.
You won't notice much difference in performance but like Larry said, Will reduce friction & heat.

Message: I figure I cant beat the price and shouldnt look a gift horse in the mouth so I'll put 'em on. Should be the same as putting rockers on a small block Chevy right? I've done those a billion times on the racecar but I have never ever taken the valve covers off of my Dak.

Message: Yes they are fairly easy to install just be sure
the cyl you are working on is at TDC compresion
stroke.
The roller lifters in these motors require a .050
to .060 preload, on the crowers its push rod snug
than 3/4 turn and lock.
On the mopar set I beleave they go by torque any
way it should be explaned in the kit how to set
them.
Also be sure there is enough clearance for the
covers, with the crowers you can just knock the
baffles back and they clear fine.
If you ever plan on an aftermarket cam you need
the 1.6 ratio if you have the 1.7's like I do I
had to get a custom grind to run them or spend
another $350 for rockers.
If there free I would go for it less friction and
heat is a plus and will make your motor last
longer. less ware on the valve stems and guides.
I would
