Subject: Jet Stage II ? IP: Logged
Message: I think I can get a good deal on a Jet Stage II chip. But I have a few questions before I buy it. On Jet's website they say the Stage II is for free flowing exhaust and low thermostat engines, but I only have the free flowing exhaust part. Is it absolutly necessary to switch to a 180 t-stat before installing the chip? If it is, is there anywhere I can get detailed instructions on changing that thing? It seems like I would have to take some pulleys off just so i make sure I have the old gasket cleaned off.
Has anyone had experience with the Jet Stage II chip? Any likes, dislikes, problems, improvements etc.? Also, with the chip, do i have to switch to a higher octane gas? I am a poor college student and dont want to have to buy the expensive stuff.
Thank you in advance!

Message: I have the stage II chip and I love it (does wonders on the highway) . I have homebrew intake and cat back exaust. I changed the Tstat at the same time (good idea to do anyway). Yes you do need to run premium, but if your interested in performance you should run premium anyway. Right now premium in my area is ony 20 cents above mid grade so its not that bad (now). 2 minute install for the chip and 15 for the tstat.

Message: I also have the Jet Stage II on my truck (98 V6 4x4) and I gotta agree with Xphile1999, it noticeably adds more power to the butt dyno. Probably the best mod I've done yet (got the throttle body comin' though....so we'll see). So give it a shot. Regarding gas...I use mid grade with no pinging or problems at all.

Message: the t stat is easy to change
all you need is an extension to reach the bolts
just follow the radiator hose down to the block and unbolt. put a rag in the whole to prevent contamination and simply replace the tstat. takes 15 min.
