Message: ok i've got an 88 3.9 I want to build the engine and wnat to get rid of the EFI. I want to put a 4bbl intake on the engine and i've come to the conclusion the the MPP intake is out of the question. Can I cut down an intake from a 318?? Also does MPP still make the vacum advance electronic distrubter?? If not can tyhe one for a 225/6 work with some modification.
Thanks,
Aaron

Message: The best,or cheapest, thing for you to do is get a 87 manifold or try working a EFI manifold to work with a carb. I've never heard of anybody doing the later (I was going to do this until something else came up) but looks like you might be get away with it. Make sure you know what your putting on (I wouldn't go much bigger then a 390 cfm) so you can try moking stuff up while your cutting or grinding. Like I said I don't know if it'll work but there looks to be enough meat on it to try it.
Mancini Racing had the distributor conversion kits for about $100, but this was about 2 years ago. If that does work get a V8 and a slant 6 distribtor and change the star wheels.
Don't forget to give the computer a reference so the fuel pump and alternator will work or nothing will work. The computer needs a reference to know when the engine is running, if I remember right it got the reference from the distributor. This is not a big deal to do.

Message: That was another thought that i was gonna put down was trying to adapt a carb to (even a high cfm 2bbl carb) to the EFI intake. I was actually thining of ripping out the computer system compleatly and rewiring in an aftermarket fuel pump I want to put a fuel cell in anyways. As for the altanator ( yeah i know bad spelling)I'm sure I can get around that as well. thakns for the input any more will still help greatly.

Message: You don't want to go to big on a 2 barrel. If you go to big your loose all your bottom end, you'll basically drown the engine until it gets to the rpm where it can handle it. Might want to try a carb off that 6 cyl, atleast it'll give a good base and will be cheap.

Message: yeah i know what you mean. I was looking at my catolog from Jegs and they have a 350 cfm holley 2bbl which would be a good carb and easier to make fit. I think that is what my problem is right now with the EFI I thing the fuel pressure regulator is shot b/c it bogs down till i get to higher rpms then it screams. Oh another question can i still run the A500 with out the computer. If I'm correct the od is controled by the computer. If it is there a way to use the tranny with out the computer.

Message: I'm not positive but I don't think the computer controls the shifting. It might control the lock up converter, but I really don't think it does anything with the shifting it self. You should have the on/off switch on the left hand side of the dash, thats what mainly controls the OD. I'd look into the EFI more see if you can figure that out, unless you want to go fast then ditch it. Check your fuel pressure and such to see whats going on. If your having problems now you might still have problems after you do all this work to it.

Message: I dont think using a 6 cylinder reluctor in a v8 distributor will work. the 3.9 is odd fire and fires at 128 deg and 112 deg rather than 120 of a slant six. I belive the factory kits had a special part for 3.9 but not sure. Has any one done this?

Message: Hey Spencer-what other mods did you do to get 166HP? I have a 1990 ex-cab 2WD Dakota with 3.9L auto from which I would love to get 166HP. What are the cam specs & who made the headers? I have ben on this forum & have received great info about mildly porting/polishing heads + 3 angle valve job + cam install etc etc but there are so many options out there that it is mindboggling to know which one might work best(I don't have the ability to do any of the work myself so only want to do it once!) Thanks and have a great day!
