I have a 93 dakota 3.9L 4spd auto. I keep hearing some people say they are adjusting the bands on their tranny, Is this true. I guess I have a A-500 tranny. I just bought a B&M Transpak to install tomorrow so i would like to adjust the bands if I could. I have a F150 1980 w/ 400 Big Block and C6 tranny. I can adjust the bands on that one so are those two tranny similar in adjustment. LOL i do relize these are two different makes by the way. thanks billy

The bands in your Dakota transmission are adjustable, but I do not recall the adjustment specs.

there is a first and reverse band.... You only need them adjusted if the trans is acting funny shifting between gears and/or going into gear. on the a500 series it would be a good idea to take it to a trans shop.

Some things to look for.... If it slips going into reverse and first it is prolly a band prob... If it slips going into first only, and does not want to hit your over drive gear well, change the fluid/filter. USE ONLY MOPAR TRANS FLUID.... If its still does it then it needs a rebuild.

The a500s are an expensive POS, it was a mistake for dodge to use them.... To help them last longer its a good idea to baby them... Change fluid filter every 50K, umm add a cooler.... Make sure the fluid level is ALWAYS up to par....

I know I know, before someone says it, "but mine has lasted 140K," well good, I am happy for you cause your are lucky.
