Subject: Instrument gauges not working IP: Logged
Message: Hello,
I'm considering buying a 1997 Dakota that has been in an accident involving a pole. There doesn't appear to be all that much damage, except for the front bumper, grill, and a little on the hood. But, after the accident happened the instrument gauges stopped working. All the warning lights light up, but the speedo, tach, oil, fuel, etc gauges don't work. The damage was done to the front on the passenger side and towards the middle enough not to damage the headlights. Any idea's what the problem could be? The guy only wants what he has left on the loan, $1500. I work with him and have seen the vehicle everyday, so I know it runs good and is reliable. No other problems that have ever been mentioned to me. Should I go for it?

Message: Sounds like a few blown fuses or a wire knocked off.
Check all the fuse's and look for a shorted wire
near the crash area.

Message: Sounds like the impact is also where the computer is bolted onto the inside of the fenderwell, Check the Large plugs going into the Computer and follow the wires down toward the tranny, there are 2 very large connectors there also. May have broken/cracked the 'puter or knocked one of the connectors loose.
Good Luck,
Shank
