Subject: poor fuel mileage - sudden IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1993 V6 with 168000 miles on it . I have suddenly started getting only 250 miles from a tank full of fuel . It is stock . I have replaced the , plugs , wires , rotor button , distributor cap , air charge sensor , water temp sensor , thermostat , mufffler , Catalytic converter , air filer , fuel pump , fuel filter ,u-joints , coil ,coolant and the O2 sensor . It's only burning about a quart of oil every 4500 miles and if I remove the hose from the PCV I don't notice a lot of blow by . But still I get rich running and fuel smell from the exaust . when I pull the plugs they don't look all that bad . any ieas ?

Message: You probably filled up on a bad, dirty tank of gas. The same thing happened to me. I checked and replaced the injectors, the sensors, everything I could think of! finally, I just realized the it was only about 5 minutes of driving after the fill-up when it started. the fuel was so bad, I think it clogged and fouled up one of my injectors, and the fuel filter. Replaced those, and the truck ran fine, after that tank of gas was out of my truck!
I doubt you are having any real, deep, serious problems like you might think.

Message: I also have a '93. Try checking the pulse ring inside the distributor. If it is loose, it must be replaced. This caused a plague of faults on my truck.

Message: Check for air in the fuel lines going to the injectors. Locate a small plastic cap covering a schrader/tire valve. While the engine is off place a rag under the valve and infront of it to catch fuel. Press it a few times if there is air. If there is air also turn your key to the on position a few times, but do not start the engine, that should bring the presure up in the lines to help remove any air.
