Subject: Front Wheel Bearings IP: Logged
Message: Has anyone ever replaced the front wheel bearings on a 2WD 2000 dak? Mine started making noises so I decided to replace them. Come to find out that you have to buy the hub and bearings as a kit. I couldn't buy just the bearings. Anyone have this problem? I hate the fact that I might have to spend $150 per side just to change the bearings. Thanks for the input.

Message: DO you have an Advance Auto near you? If so they have the bearings alone, and you can get the old pressed out and the new pressed in. I think I spent a total of 35 bucks for both sides. Just remeber to properly tork down the hub assembly. You could also take the #'s off of the hub bearing and have it cross referanced. Good luck

Message: I got some bearings from Advanced Auto, but they were too small. That is the only size they had.

Message: Have them cross ref. the bearing number off of your stock one. That is the absolute best way to get bearings, computers lie, the books don't. YOu may want to try Napa.

Message: I havent worked on a 2000 but I find it hard to beleive that the bearing assembly is different from the earlier Daks?
What do you mean by "pressed in", are you reffering to just the race or the entire bearing and race assembly?
If just the race then you can simply knock it out from the other side of the rotor and then have the new race pressed in or find a socket a hair smaller and tap it in evenly and gently.
Good luck

Message: I just sent mine to NAPA, 5 bucks for both sides to have taken out and new pressed in.
