Does anybody know if there are reman heads available for a 93 3.9 dak. I jumped time last weekend and bent all the valves and when I mag fluxed the heads I found cracks in both.
I wouldn't mind going with low mile used but would rather have fresh.
Any ideas would really help.
Great site, Thanks for the help.

What happened? Did your timing chain break??? Also how many miles are on your engine??? In MS there is a local shop that does the swap, but for you I would have to say check Ebay. You could probably find a junk Dak for the price of reman heads but if you absolutely want them, I will look for you. I ask all these questions because Im debating whether or not to change my chain now or not. Ill get back to you.

Hey Joe,
I had 167,000 miles on it. I was pulling up to a stop sign and when I let off the gas it just died.
When I tried to start it, I could tell I had no compression at all.
When I got the old chain off, the cam gear had the teeth chewed off of one side of it. By one side I mean like about 180 deg. around it.
I'd had the "typical" rattle from the front end of the engine for some time and even replaced the chain and gears about 30,xxx miles back but even after replacing it I still had the rattle.
I noticed today that Larry from J&J auto said there was a TSB on the tensioner. I wish I'd have known sooner.
Thanks for your help. I thought about a parts truck too. I'm going to start looking tomorrow.
I was looking for an excuse to put in a 318 but didn't think I could afford it but now I'm not sure. My Dad has lots of 318/360 mopar stuff. He has a 318 on the stand now. I just didn't know what kind of money it would take to replace the intake and all the computer stuff.
I guess I'll find out what my options cost when I start looking.

Man that sucks. I cant believe the chain broke after 30k miles. I thought all the tensioner did was keep it quiet and of course put tension on it. I guess thats the sound Ive been hearingm, never thought too much of it though. I think I replied to another post of yours or you replied to my timing chain post. I seriously dont want to pay anyone to do the chain, but it seems like quite the job. Ive done starters and brakes and stuff like alternators, but this seems like a challenge. The problem with me is, I can usually get it done but there needs to be room for error. Im worried if I try to do it I might damage something. But Ill look at the haynes and previous threads on timing chains. Anything special I should know about. DB, I have no clue on remanufactured heads. COuld you try auto zones or napas. I saw they started carrying engines and intakes so maybe they could do something. If you want used, you could try car-parts.com and have your pick, also keep a close eye on ebay. Im kinda confused about your situation though. The heads are fine right, just the valves, maybe camshaft, and other internals are messed up. Why not just get new ones??? Im sure you could find some nice stuff and make it run good, but Larry would be the man to chat with cuz of his V6 that probably has nothing stock in it. Anyways, thanks for the help. Im on the net a lot so I'll continue to look.

Hey ya'll.
Thanks for your help. I think I lucked out. I found a salvage yard that had a 2001 dak that had been in a flood and for some ungodly reason they are parting it out. The engine only has 17,000 miles on it and they let me pull the pan and look at it before I bought it. They were only asking $350.00 for it. I'll have to put my 93 intake and TB on it but I think it will work great.
Joe, I guess I forgot to say that my heads were cracked and I was afraid to try to use them even though they were'nt leaking when I took them off.
As far as replacing the timing chain on your's, unless it's a newer model and has alot of stuff on it that mine dosen't, it's really not that big of a deal. Just make sure the little dot on the front of the cam gear and the dot on the crank gear are turned so that both of them are in line with an imaginary vertical line right through the center of the engine. The cam gear dot should be on the bottom and the crank gear should be on the top. Just like if they were mated gears and next to each other, the two dots would be right next to each other when they came around every other time.
Don't let all that stuff on the front of the engine intimidate you. It all just goes back on the same way it came off. Since I'm getting a little older and forgetful, this time when I took it all off I used a paint pen and marked all the bolts with something to help me remember what they were holding on. Hate to admit it but it works. I think the only trick there would be is to know you don't have to pull the water pump off and screw up another gasket unless you just want to look at it. It will come off with the timing cover if you just leave in the short bolts.
The Haynes manual is great. It's nice to be able to just call ol' dad but the Haynes manual is the next best thing.
Shank, thanks for the offer but when I started pricing re-ring kits at $210 and valves for $8-$10 a piece, and all the other crap, I dicided on the low mile '01. I sure don't claim to know everything, so if any one can tell me why a '01 engine won't work in '93 after changing out the intake, TB, and the passenger side exhaust manifold, I sure would appreciate a reply.
Sorry for using up so much space.
