Subject: Oil Pressure drops after running it hard IP: Logged
Message: Oil light has come on 4-5 times in past 3 years even with enough oil. I recently did a valve job, cleaned the carbon from piston tops, ported heads and manifolds to match, new timing chain, and new mopar performance lifters. I hooked up a manual pressure guage to the sensor port to verify low pressure or sensor and wire. Now normal running pressure is 45 psi and idle is around 15. If I get on it to about 4k the oil pressure goes to 70, after letting off the throttle within 45 sec the pressure will drop to 20 at less than 2k rpm and idle is around 5. Could this be the oil pump bypass valve sticking open?
Thanks Bob

Message: I had basically the same problem as you but worse. It ended up being a sludge buildup in the bottom of the oil pan that was clogging up the screen after I ran it.I would shut the engine off and restart it and the pressure would be fine for a few minutes untill it started sucking up that crap again.
