Ok....ever since I put in a NEW muffler (factory replacement), my truck sounds like sh!t, and performs like crap now more. WTF....its stock replacement.
Brought my truck to get a sticker, it didnt pass because it was too loud and they say it might be the cat converter.....could it be this??

Maine. And that's the LAST time I go to Pep-Boys.
It does sound loud for some reason though. I havent figured it out. Its not like loud loud....its not even V8 loud. Just not a soft sound...more rough like.

Hey Ray,
Stay away from Pep-Boys there stuff sucks. I know 6 people that bought new alternators from them and they just die 1 after another, within like 3 months. I bought 1 of thier battery's too and that failed after a year and burnt out.

I don't know what they do in maine but down here in new york you can get a ticket for a loud exhaust from the cops but you can't fail inspection for it, and you can only fail for the cat convertor if its missing or has a big hole rusted through it.

Hey dude,
I'm in Maine also. I have a dynomax cat back exhaust, I passed fine.
it depends on where you go. I went to a little shop- no chain- they will pass a lot of stuff that shouldn't be passed. but o-well.
where are you maine? I'm in southern maine.

Pep Boys does not sell "factory replacement, only "aftermarket replacement" as they do not get their mufflers from DCX. The only other way to get one is to know someone willing to risk their job getting one out of Feuricia Exhaust in either North or South Carolina (don't remember which), since the moved all manufacturing out of Toledo where they used to be made.

Jon I'm from NY too, and I've never heard of anyone getting a ticket for a loud exhaust, or failing inspection for that matter. I'm from upstate, and my dad has a 69 Cornett R/T, with headers and Flomasters, and it passes inspection all of the time. That's a loud exhaust. I don't know what part of NY you are in where the cops give you a ticket for your exhaust. I've only gotten tickets for my stereo.

Running with open headers will usually get you a ticket :) But usually the cops don't mind if it's on a muscle car, btw i'm over near buffalo.
