I have a 97 Dakota, really happy with it until a week ago when i took it in to get the cat converter replaced under warranty. After the dealership sent me on my way my check engine light came on within three miles and my truck was running terrible. I took it back and they informed that the upstream O2 sensor was bad and they weren't responsible and would have to charge me to fix it. Not wanting to be arrested I finally left with my truck and bought the sensor for $93 and replaced it myself. It was a very simple process and yes i did reset the check engine light but it didn't fix my problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Umm, what is your problem? You said the cat was replaced by the dealer and you replaced an O2 by yourself. Is the new cat rattling now too? You could just keep getting freebies (which are probably all defective) or buy an aftermarket Carsound which are much better. I went with the Carsound after my cat died in 3 years.

Just a tip, it's best to start a new thread instead of digging up an old one and tacking your problem onto it.

Has anyone found a direct repacement Carsound cat? The only ones I have found said they will not just hook up to a 93 Dakota. Will I ned someone to "make" it fit? Where is a cheap place to buy one? I am on my 3rd cat in 5 years and it is now totally busted inside.

What were the indications that the replacement cat converters failed?

I know how to test for a rattle, but how do you test for one stopping up?

If it is plugged up you will have excessive backpressure on the exaust manifold. Check the exhaust pressure before and after the cat if there is an extreme difference that is your problem
