ok i've read on here before that some of you guys hear a knocking coming from the engine and that it is normal but i haven't really noticed anything since i've owned mine(about 2yrs) and after changing the oil today there is a distink knocking coming from engine. the kind of knock you sometimes hear after you change your oil when everything is a bit dry. well its not that because its been a few hours and i've started it a few times so it should have went away. it knocks when i start it up, only for maybe 8 seconds then stops knocking and it will knock 8 or so seconds after i rev it up.

is this normal for this truck or should i be worried. since i got warranty with my truck this is the first time i changed the oil, normaly had it done by a mechanic for warranty reasons so i never really notice so not sure if its normal.

thanks.

Sounds like the timing chain, very common.

They make a tensioner to quit it down.

All 3 Daks I bought new had the same thing

Howdy,

The only sure way to tell is to get a stethascope and put the probe on the timing chain cover and verify the sound is from there.

Could also be a stuck lifter or valve pring .... but the timing chain is the most common. There is a Technical Service Bulletin on it and the dealer should add the tensioner kit, if it is still under the power train warranty. Mine made the noise at about 80K, the dealer said it was normal and did not tell me about the TSB. I found the TSB at 120K, so I had to do it myself. About $120 in parts from the dealer.
