Message: THIS IS MY FIRST MESSAGE AND I AM REALLY LOOKING FOR SOME HELPFULL SUGGESTIONS. I CURRENTLY OWN A 99 DAKOTA SPORT 2X4. I WANT TO MAKE THIS MY FIRST PROJECT. I OWN AN AUTOMOTIVE MACHINE SHOP BUT HAVE LITTLE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT NITROUS. I HAVE DONE MY RESEACH AND CAME UP WITH EITHER A 350 CHEVY, OR ONE OF THE NEW HEMI'S. WITH ONE OF THESE TWO ENGINES I WANT TO PUT THE NOS PRO SHOT 2-STAGE NITROUS SYSTEM. I AM SHOOTING FOR AN 8 SECOND QUARTER FOR THE CHANCE TO SAY I BUILT ONE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPLYS.

As for an engine, the Chev 350 would be the choice for now as there a great amout of parts available to get it up into the HP range you would need.
If you can get the truck weight down to 3000 pounds you would need about 840 hp to run 8.9 in the quarter. I would build a 383 (stoked 350) and get some of those new CNC heads. Good luck.

Message: Hey crazy J. Are you looking into putting some kind of off the line power on? You definitly do not want to hit the NOS off the line. Snag yourself a supercharger, its the best for fast get go's! Good luck, and post some pictures!

Message: Correct digital, why not? If you have the traction and the parts won't break, go for it! :)

Message: Usually nitrous comes on too fast and you will smoke the tires coming off the line. Of course if your engine is underpowered even with the nitrous thats not a problem :)

Message: Duh, that is why I said "if you have the traction".
If not there is a host of NOS controllers that delay the release and even do it in stages so the power comes on smoothly.
But the smart thing to do, if you want a fast drag truck, is to tub the back for some big drag slicks. Then setup the chassis well for good weight transfer.Of course for the 800+ hp you will need a host of bullet proof running gear as well.
