 Subject: Major problems! I need expert advice!

I bought a Dodge Dakota V6 Magnum it is due for it's first oil change (3000 miles)and I have already took it back once b/c of rough idle and knocking noises. They said that they did not set the reset on the gas compsumption and it was still on low factory setting. They also told me that it would run smoother once the tramission "Trained It Self". Here is what I have noticed so far:
* Knocks around wheelbase when turning very sharp
* Makes a whining sound in lower gears
* Engine knocks louder than it should
* Rides better when A/C is off (Smoother/Quiter)
* Feels like you loose compression at 50mph
* Transmission did not engage once
* Headlight sometimes stay on after they are turned off
* Rough Idle
* Drivers seat sometimes moves like it is loose
* Rough ride (Going over Rail Road tracks at 40mph makes you leave the seat)
If anyone can help me with these things I would be grateful. I have tried to test drive another truck like mine but the delearship is always out of them.

probably just the mechanical fan

well duh! the a/c compressor robs power from the motor.
* Feels like you loose compression at 50mph
its a V6 powered brick going 50mph.. what can you expect?
* Headlight sometimes stay on after they are turned off
a lot of cars to that... maybe the newer dakotas do it too... not sure, ask your dealer

He is right though.....have you not owned a pickup before? You cant expect carlike traits from it.
I would be curious to know what year you bought though?

The headlamps have a delay (on some packages) when the ignition is turned off before the headlamp switch is tunred off. In this type of set-up, the daly may be over-rided by simply shutting off the headlamps before shutting off the ignition.
Later year model 3.9L V-6's have a rough idle, get used to it.
What does it feel like to lose compression? Is that the same as simple power loss?
Describe the circumstances in which you hear your "knock". It may be spark knock as noted in the fuel section of your owners manual.

You also drop into overdrive lock up around 50mph
and the rpm's will drop about 500, its like
idleing in high gear.
Try a 2 foot deep water hole at 55mph low range
4X4 at 5000 rpm 25 feet long and see if it goes
straight.
