Subject: missing a cylinder? IP: Logged
Message: Have a problem with my 1999 V6 where it idles real rough in gear, but smooth in neutral. When it idles rough in gear, I hear a ticking noise in the engine each time the RPM drops on the rough idle. Also accelerates sluggishly and very choppy and jerky (like it's not getting fuel or something). Kicks into overdrive a lot going up hills as it loses a lot of speed. Thought it might be a fuel filter or fuel injectors but was told by someone the other day that it was a cylinder that was "missing". How likely is that and what is the outcome of running a vehicle that may ultimately end up on 5 cylinders? Opinions are much appreciated! Thanks!

Message: Try pulling your codes. I believe missing cylinders are p030x - x represents the missing cylinder #. I personally pulled a 303, #3 cyl, splark plug wire went bad. Symptoms sound similar to what I had, but but check eng. light came on. Check your codes and go from there.

Message: Big drop in speed when you hit a hil sounds a lot like a plenum gasket. Very common problem. Check the forum on other posts on the plenum or belly pan.
