Subject: Roaring Sound from Dak
IP: Logged

Message:
My 2000 V6 dak is making a roaring sound when I reach 30 mph. The tires are about 4 months old so I don't think that is the problem. It is very difficult to pinpoint where it is coming from but I think it may be the back. Could it be a wheel bearing or the rear gears? When I'm running about 60 I put my 5 speed in nuetral and let it coast, and I still hear the sound. What do you guys think?

Thanks for the help

I had the same problem I think,

Does it always do this or only every once in a while. Myne would only do it if, I jumped on the gas and mostly while eccelerating. I took it to the dealer and they made me leave it over night. It turned out to be the fan clutch. It ran me about $317 w/ parts and labor.

How many miles are on it. If its from the rear and you have over 30k w/original diff fluid then go ahead and change the rear end fluid. I had a 97z28 that had a little roar and someone said it is the diff fluid. It had 67k on it.

I know its not the clutch fan. This is a very different sound than when the clutch fan is engaged. It has almost 50,000 miles on it. I'll change the diff lube and see if that helps.

Thanks for the input
