 Subject: 3.9 wont idle

i drive a high milage 89 4wd 3.9l. i am a bike mechanic but dont know too much about cars. it started idling rough about a month ago. its gotten worst ever since. now it actually stalls often. if i give it just a little gas it sputters. the idle is constantly rising and falling. i cleaned the throttle body and looked for vacuum leaks. i brought it to 2 different mechanics who both hooked it up to a scanner and said everything is normal. one of them said the scanner showed the egr valve opening unusually often and tried disabling its solenoid to no avail. i know she is old but i love her and would hate to see her go. at the same time i dont have money to pour into a lost cause. any ideas? what should i be checking? thanx for your time

TBI has a ton of sensors. When was the last time the O2 sensor was replaced? MAP? Throttle position?

Clean the throttle body and from what Ive read on this site, your IAC idle air control or something like that. Sorry not much help, but maybe you can look into it.
