Last night i was on the way home from hanging out with some buddies of mine, and my truck started making some funny noises. First off I have a 1990 Dodge Dakota 3.9v6 Auto. Its got a split driveshaft also. But when i accelarate and turn just a little the whole back end and driveshaft will make a loud "POPOPOPOPOPOPOPOPOPOP". Its so bad where it is undriveable. What should i do, what is the problem??

thanks,
Craig

i just had the same thing happen to mine i replaced the u joints and it didnt fix it s i gotunder the truck and decided to take a look @the differential i took the cover off and it looked like some one took a cutting torch to my carrier before replacing u joints check the diff if the carriers broke might as well look for a new axle i found one carrier at the delership they wanted 350.00 for it so i found a 8.25 axle at a salvage yard and put it in still cost the same but was eisier brecause i didnt have to buy the ring and pinion and berings and install them all.

If it only happens when you turn, it is in the diff. One of the spider (side) gears is broke or something else. It's simular to what 90dak said.
