The difference is that the +4 is an improved semi-synthetic fluid and a better choice, use it if possible. In the days of the rh series and older trannies, if you drove it hard or manualy shifted it you could expect some band wear. It's like gapping sparkplugs versus just installing them, where are you comfortable? Band adjustment is not that difficult, follow the instructions and use a torqe wrench. If your transmission uses a square lug on one of the bands you will need a 5/16" 8 sided socket(napa nb810) for adjusment. It also helps to put a paint mark or grease pencil line on the socket(s) to help in counting the number of turns.

Ive been told that Mobil 1 Synthetic is the best fluid to go with, has all the friction modifiers of the +3 and the +4, kinda pricey of course. my Dak is a 00 3.9....anyone have a recomendation on this?

From what I understand Amsoil is the only aftermarket fluid up to the Chrysler atf+4 spec. Try to see if you can confirm it from mobil in print , their's might now be up to spec. It is probably ok if your truck recomends +3 and it meets those requirements, the biggest issue is with the front wheel drive cars and their transaxles.

i just changed mine in my 00 3.9 auto trans.

i used ATF + 3 like my service manual suggests, but atf + 4 will work just fine also, just costs more.

amsoil will also work but it will run you close to $35 bucks just for the 4 quarts!!!!

not sure about the mobil one but i would use one of the other 3 i mentioned.

I went with the Amsoil universal synthetic in mine
changed filter and fluid twice in 3000 miles so
I should be 90% Amsoil.

It actually made my trans smother.

I run all Amsoil fluids in my truck and it seams
to also help performance wise also

No, the appropriate product is Mobil ATF+3 however it is not a synthetic
product.
