Subject: V6 to V8 Throttle Body Swap Instructions IP: Logged
Message: It depends on what linkage you have on your truck.
Some V6 had the V8 linkage already.
You can tell by looking at what is on your truck, If the cable
raps around the bottom of a cam system like this
you have the V8 linkage and do not need the cable.
The regular V6 linkage is just a cable that goes through the
bracket and pops on a ball stud no cam set up like in the picture.
Just use all your sensors from your V6 body
because you know they work.
TPS - Throttle position sensor drivers side of TB (just bolt on)
line up the slot and turn slightly counterclockwise to line
up the bolt holes.
MAP - Manifold absolute pressure sensor front of throttle body (just bolt on)
Be sure you get the rubber elbow plugged on the port OK
IAC - Idle air control valve back of TB Be sure to use a light
coat of grease or oil on the O Ring when you put this on
the V8 body for a good seal. do not push pull or twist on the
IAC
A #25 or #20 torx's driver for all the sensor bolts.
A 1/2 inch or 9/16 wrench for the 4 throttle body bolts.
Unplug all the electrical connections and the 4 hold down bolts and
all the cables, you can unbolt the bracket with a 5/16 wrench or
socket if you are going to reuse it on the V8 body.
just lift the body off the manifold. Now change out the sensors,
bolt the V8 body down 8 to 9 foot pounds do not over tighten.
I would recommend a new gasket right from the dealer or a
parts store around $1 to $2 you may have to trim the gasket
just turn the throttle body upside down hold the gasket on the
bottom and open the butterfly's to be sure they clear the
gasket if not trim them with a small scissors carefully until
they clear.
Now just plug all the electrical connections back on and
hook up all the cables.
Reset your computer by disconnecting the Neg. battery cable
go in the truck and turn the key like you are going to start the
truck and hold on start for 20 to 30 seconds, now shut the
key off and rehook the Neg. battery cable and start your truck.
Do not touch the gas pedal let it idle for 5 minutes to learn its
new idle. Now go drive your truck, you will notice immediate gains
and it will get better the more you drive it.
50 miles for a short term learn and after about 250 miles
it will have completely learned the new body and you will
love what you did. They dyno 15 to 18 RWHP and it will
be stronger throughout the entire rpm range.
If you run in to any probs just drop me an email
Hope this clears up all the cable questions.

Message: The TB you have pictured is a 94.5-95 model year TB. 94.5-95 model year TBs (V6 and V8) use the same linkage, no cable change required.
92-early 94s use a different style linkage (type I), and both the V6 and V8s use the same cable once again.
96 and Newer TBs OBD-II have a different linkage style (Type III)-- The V6 is a ball style, whereas the V8 is a clip style connector. So for 96 and new V6 owners, you'll need a V8 Throttle Cable from a DAKOTA V8, 96 and up... and a V8 TB from 96 and up to make it all work.
Mixing an older V8 TB, with a linkage that'll fit the V6 linkage won't work correctly as that is an OBD-I TB, and has idle ports in the bores-- idling can be affected, etc.
I have both in stock! :)

Message: Yes thanks Sam forgot to metion that.
92 to 95 have a EGR vacume port on the body.
96 and newer have no EGR but another port.
So if your truck is 96 and up be sure the V8
body you get is also 96 and up.
92 to 95 you need a 92 to 95 V8 body or you will
have some idle isues.
and there is the third Disc type that sam mentions
so you need to see what you have to know if you
also need the cable.

has the EGR vacume port and check the cabe setup
if you need a differant cable get one out of a 94
V8 Dakota
you need to check the cable set up but yes it will
bolt right on and is one of the best mods you can

Message: On the V8 throotle body I put on truck has the disk type throttle connection. I was able to use a dremmel tool to gring down the disk so the v6 cable will work, so far it works fine.
