Message: I just got my Stainless Gibson Exhaust for my 02 3.9 quad today i will install it soon. I was told by summit Racing that the pipes were 2.5. I opened the box and they were 3". I called gibson and asked about the loss of backpressure he gave me the dyno specs said there was a gain of 9HP and 9lbs of torque. He said the single side swept was not wake your neighbors up load but louder then factory.I think i will be happy with Gibson.

Message: Had the local shop put it on today they put a couple of welds to hold it tight looks good. Not to happy with the sound sort of sounds like a rice buner on steroids at high rpms.as for their website saying that the sound is at the tailpipe not it the cab is bull. All i got from Gibson was that it meets all calif noise laws. They told that there is no way to get the v8 sound out of a v6 even though their website says it gives you a more throatier sounds. They told me to replace the tip with one that has a resonator to quiet it down some. They told me that the dont warrenty an personal preferance.I will see how it goes for a while.

Message: Hate it they told me that it might be loud if the muffler is on backwards i told them that the cat pipe is on the inlet and the tail pipe is on the outlet side. They told me that there is a chance that the stickers are on backwards. They told me to pull it off and check now that it is clamped and spot welded on.I am currently trying them to get them to buy it back. The damn thing is so loud in the cab i cant hear myself think.I hate to admit i may just write it off as a loss and put new factory on. Has anyone else had similar problems.

Message: hey man. if your trying to get that low v8 growl out of a v6 it just plain won't happen. 3" is too big for our little v6 motors. My 02 sxt came stock with 2.5" pipes, so all i did was put the 40 series flowmaster on and a stainless tip for the looks. It sounds great, maybe a tiny bit of ricey tone at really high rpms. And performance wise, it works well also. Do you have any other mods to your truck? In order to push that much air out, you need to be sucking in a lot more air then a stock motor allows.

Message: That is what i read about the 3" Gibson told me that the size was dyno tested and that it would not effect anything because it is only the muffler and tail pipe were 3". If it were 3" all the way from headers that might effect it some. How loud is the flowmaster in the cab this gibson is at least 3 times louder then stock when accelerating.Ok at high speeds but to loud for city driving.I also was going to just get a muffler and but i didnt want to replace the factory stainless with alum-steel then with a new stainless muffler i didnt want to have to replace the pipes from the muffler back in a couple of years so i bought it all at once. Thanks for the info.

I have the same set-up on my '00. My swept-side came with 2.5" tubing and a 3" tip. It sounded good in the cab but was a little wipmy on the outside but I had no real complaints. I've had the Gibson muffler for about two years and I recently replaced it with a Borla but kept the tubing. The Borla sounds a lot better, the tone is waaay deeper than the Gibson. Try adding an aftermarket intake so you can really utilize the exhaust.
Remember, everyone has their own opinion about "sounds." IMO, Although the Gibson tone on a V6 won't pass for an 8, it surely doesn't sound like an import buzzz.

Message: Should have just got a dynomax 17748 with a stock
tail pipe saved about $200 and sounds nice.
All you paid for was the name and on dyno test
you lose a lot of low end torque with a 3 inch
system.
They are feeding you a big line of BS just to
sell there exhaust at twice the price
The V6 shows the most low end gains with a low
restriction 2.5 in out and a 2.5 single tail
pipe.
Dyno tests don't lie ask them to show you theres
I bet they wont.

Message: Should have put on a flowmaster. I have one on my 02 70 series its a little louder then stock. And for a dynomax one of the cheapest muffler made after about 10 to 15k miles the packing burns out they resonate real bad in the cab sorry Larry had one of them and got smart got a flowmaster. As for pipe size yes the newer truck yes 2.5 pipe but on the early one 92to 96 3 pipes. My 93 V6 have 3"with a 50series flowmaster that thing was a rocket.that was a freeway flier 80plus.

Message: if you want the v8 sound out of your v6, then get a high flow cat, or take the cat offf totoally. That combined with a cat back system will make it sound like a v8.

Message: if you want it to sound like a v8, then get two more cylenders. You can get a decent tone from the v6, but a v8 tone just won't happen.

Message: I talked to Gibson today and they told me they were looking to make me a 2.5" tail pipe they had to check with the rd dept to see if that will quiet it down some in the cab i dont care about the outside noise as long as it gets quiet in the cab. I should have spent the extra 1000$ and just got an v8.Thinking of dumping dakota anyways and go back to Ford.

Message: Noboby said that ford fans were smart especially those who decide to buy Dodge. What kind of research could you do all you find are opinions about how the exhaust sounds that is what i am stating my opinion.Others may like the sound some may not. Also in my opinion the v6 may be great until they stick it in the quadcab then its not so great.

Message: I've got the Gibson single on my '02 SXT Dakota Club Cab and I think it sounds fine. It does get a little ricy at high RPM's but it's not like anyone could really tell while you are going down the road. As for the performance, the low end is still the same but I can see an increase in performance while traveling down the interstate. Easier to pass people, especially on hills. As for the in-cabin sound, mine can be heard but it is not annoying & some people do not even notice it. My dad has a V6 full size chevy with dual Raven (sp?) exhaust and it sounds just a little deeper outside of the truck but is quite obnoxious inside the truck. I also noticed that after running the exhaust on my truck for about 3 weeks to a month, the sound did get a little deeper and does sound better. It also sounds good when you start off from idle. When you get the inside sound adjusted or fixed you will notice what I mean. Also, it sounds a little whinier inside the cab than it does outside.

Message: I finally got them to return mine way to loud inside the cab for me.It will be funny to see if the factory stickers on the muffler that mark inlet and outlet were on wrong that could be the whole problem and why my exhaust sounded weird.I do all city driving and the noise gets to me after awhile. And the 9hp & 9ft lbs of torque that gibsons dyno results gives you is not enough for the noise in the cab and weird sound at the tailpipe(IN MY OPINION)! Going back to stock.I think the truck looks to nice to sound loud.My exhaust sounded like i had a hole in the muffler.Im going to look for a older hot rod or somthing that way i can have my nice dak.And when i want loud and power i can drive the other car.

Message: i bought the gibson muffler about a year ago and then and still now i love the sound. my tail pipe got yanked off though and lost in the forest somewhere when i was 4 wheeling. i just bought a 3" dia. straight pipe and bolted it on so now i got the tailpipe going straight back, that sort of made less noise in the cab but not a big difference. i also have an Airaid intake. mid rpm torque is alot better
