Message: Ray,
What size of motor are you thinking about putting in? I have been toying with different ideas for building up my 93 Dak Sport 2wd. Just curious....

Message: I have a V6 3.9L right now, and I am thinking about finding a V8 5.9L in. Mine also is 2wd, and I found a rebuilt V8 for $1670 (does not include oil pan, valve covers, instake manifold).

Message: Ray, Good chance you'll overload & blow your transmission. $1670 sounds good but the parts you are missing is another $1670. I had to Purchase a 4X4 Oil Pan for a 3.9 and only place I found 1 was in Wisconsin. Cost me $80 for Just the Oil Pan!
If your staying 2WD look in the Junkyards for a complete engine & pull the parts you need.
I don't know which tranny you have, I only dealt with Auto's.
Good Luck

Message: uh the 3.9 is a 5.2 minus 2 cylinders, the back of the block is the same so yes the tranny will bolt up fine. in fact you don't need to change motor mounts either. you can use the stock v6 harness but you have to add some wires for the 2 more injectors. also you will need a v8 dakota oil pan and pickup tube, as well as a correct for your year flexplate for the v8. it's not a hard swap. and if i remember right they put the nv3500 behind v6's and v8's. i went 13.8 @ 97 with my v8 on a v6 tranny. i recently put a 5.2 in a 95 v6 x-cab auto. if ya have questions e-mail me @ sparkplugracing@yahoo.com or call me @ 225-279-1363.

Message: hey ray,
I just dropped in a 1979 5.2 into my previously 93 3.9 xcab dak. It bolts up just fine using the v6 tranny, and flywheel. The only problem for me was the motor mounts. (It may be different if you use a newer V8) I completely did away w/ the engine wiring harnes...it is carbureted, and has a stand alone mopar ignition. You can check out engine-swaps.com They have all the motor mounts and oil pans...they also have swap tips. Mine wasn't hard at all, you just have to be creative...I got away w/ a lot by checking and cross referencing a whole bunch of part numbers at auto zone. You will find that most of the V6 stuff works on the V8, as well as most of the 1993 stuff works on the 1979 block...just gotta think outside the box...I haven't finished breaking the motor in yet, just gently cruised it, and it has balls of steel comopared to the 3.9
email me w/ questions...

Josh

Message: i have a 1998 dodge dakota sport v6 mag 3.9L. i have 104k miles on motor and trans. yesterday i took it to a trans shop to have the trans serviced, they told me that my "snap ring" has broke and was lying in the pan when they pulled the pan off. the mechanic, who looked as just a grease monkey, told me that it would be easier to rebuild then replace. i need some advice on what to do. the mechanic had told me, the trans could die on me at any point, or last a life time. i have a huntch to not take this mechanics word, for his english was not very fluent. if you guys could help me out, i would really appreciate it, i have a 3 hour drive home tomorrow, and i would like to be prepared for anything. thanks a bunch
