Subject: Cool air intake?

Message:
Ok, next things to buy for my '93 dakota are:

-Cool Air Intake
-Rear Cat-Back system

::Soon afterwards::
-Headers
-JET Stage II Chip
-Stage II or III Clutch (w/plate and bearing)

My question(s). Where can I get a cold air intake (currently I have a 14in edelbrock filter on my truck, and i dont like it much...when my truck warms up, all it does is suck in the hot air off the engine (because I dont have a scoop).

Second...what rear cat-back system should I get. I want the deep sound....but I am looking for more performance than anything.

A lot of the "cold air intakes" are in fact just like yours in that they have a filter that is opened to the underhood area. These "cold air intakes" are in fact "hot air intakes". They really don't help much as the hot engine air causes the performance to go down (cold dense air is better than hot thin air).

I borrowed a engine monitor that plugs into the OBDII computer port. I watched the air intake temp as I was driving around. On a day it was about 65 outside, the air intake temp would climb to over 100 at stop lights. I then noticed that it took over a mile at 40 mph to get it back down to the under 80.

To say the least, I decided I would build a box out of sheet aluminium around my filter that only opens to the front. Now all I have to do is get the time. :)

I was looking at my stock box set up and noticed that there is a good size gap between the end of the intake tube and the wheel well opening. Do ya think closing this gap with a rubber gasket so it draws only air from the opening would help? Or do you think you'ld get too much dirt and stuff into the filter that way?
