Subject: Suggested Tires & Rims?? IP: Logged
Message: Argh, I'm posting a bit here today...lotta questions.
Anyways, I know tires make a BIG difference on speed and performance. My '93 extended cab wants new tires (well...I want new tires). I want some nice wide, low pros or something to that extent (no my truck isnt lowered to like 0.5 inches from the ground...but I will be doing a 3inch drop within the next year (when i get cash)).

Message: And your question is........? Your title states tires and rims so what size rim are you wanting to get? Since you're planning a drop I'm betting you'll want a bigger wheel than the stockers to fill up the wheelwell. Once you decide on the wheel then maybe we can help you with a tire size.

Message: Well.....thats why Im asking...I don't know much about tires....all I need them for is good looks, speed and grip. Something that isnt MAD expensive. Right now I have 15s on my truck...I know there are other #s that go with tires and whatever...but I have no clue what they mean.
Hlp plz?

Message: get some R/T rims and wrap them in 275/40s
or I would leave it at stock height(less money well spent) and get some newer 16X8 w/235/60or65
but I am really cheap. I have a 92 and found some factory chrome 15x6 for $50 on ebay (shipping was$100) and put 235/75 which raised the truck a little. I kinda regret the 6inch width because that tire is a little big for the rim and doesnt sit right. I would rather have an 8 or at least a 7, but anyways it looks pretty good, and damn good for 50 bucks.

Message: If you like the R/T rims then go with a set of 275/50/17. Unfortunately the only tires available in that size come from Nitto and I believe Faulken.

Message: I dont mean to sound dumb...but what are R/T rims. If they are the ones that come with the dakota that are actual rims (without hub caps)...I have them.

Message: 17 inch wheels sold on a Gen III Dak with the R/T package. I'm sure there are many examples in the photo albums on this site.

Message: BFG makes their Comp T/A's up to 275/60-17. Thats what I have on my Durango. As far as 93 Dak goes, not every wheel that fits on a 97 and newer Dak will fit the 93. I took the factory wheels off my 99 Durango and put them on my 92 Dakota when I put the 17's on the Durango. All was good until I tried to put the center cap on. No dice. The wheels are the 99 four spoke polished aluminum. Anyway, I had to get a spacer made to push the rim out so the cap would fit over the hub. The 97-current Daks have two piece hubs. The older Daks have one piece which is why there could be a fitment problem. The actual hub sticks out further past the mounting surface as opposed to almost flush on the newer ones.
