Subject: Gear Shift Indicator IP: Logged
Message: On my 99 Dakota 6cyl the gear shift indicator is reading the wrong gear. The transmission shifts fine and goes into each gear, but the indicator is 2 gears wrong. It just happend yesterday. I have heard that there is an adjustment that can be made under the dash for it. Any advice or help finding it is apprciated.

Message: If you remove the knee bolster (the panel right under the steering wheel) you can look back and see a white thumb screw adjuster. Turn that to adjust the gear selector indicator. After you adjust the thumb screw adjuster take a look at your gear indicator. Keep adjusting until you are happy with the results. I will also suggest that you check the position of EVERY gear position before buttoning the interior back up. Total time involved will be about 5 to 10 minutes. Good luck.
