Subject: just ordered M.P. shift kit IP: Logged
Message: I just ordered in a Mopar shift kit from my local 5 star dealer. Is there any thing I should know about this before I put it in. I mean, I know I can change the tranny juice and the filter, but I don't want to screw any thing up here.

Message: Just take your time and follow the instructions.
Use a wire kitty corner when you first lower the
valve body and let it drip for a while because
when you lower it you will get a lot more fluid
out.
If you need any help just ask on this thread and
I will help you out the best I can without being
there.
I have installed about a dozen of the kits in the
newer trucks in our shop.

I changed the tranny fluid in my Dakota once myself and ended up wearing more fluid than actually made it into the waste receptacle. Most of it was in my hair. I will concede that it MUST be easier to change the fluid on a hoist instead of on the ground laying on my back but that was all I could do.

Message: I think larry ment "kaddy corner".
This is my method (before the drain plug is installed which I always do on the first service)
Remove all the bolts except the center 3 or 4 on one straight area, after all are removed loosen those 3 or 4 to about 2 turns max, pry the pan down and you should get a slow flow out of the sides you took the bolts out of but not a gusher because the pan wont drop but so far because of the other bolts. Let it run until it stops or slows down mostly and then loose them a bit more until more fluid comes out.
If you do that a few times with your body placed on the "still in" bolt side you wont get too messy.
I highly suggest you find the B&M drain plug kit for autos, I have installed em in every thing Ive owned since the mid 80's and they are great.
Only thing I do different than the directions state.......I put a very small film of silicone on both sides before I put the nut on. If you do that make sure you put so small amount it doesnt squeeze out on the fluid side and your ok.
Good luck
