I have a 1994 V6 Dakota w/ 114,000 miles. The engine keeps stalling. It stalls when idling and driving. I still have power to the radio and everything else. The only “dummy” light that comes on is the oil light. I replaced the plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor last year. I took it to my local garage and they said I needed a new exhaust. So I had a new cat, muffler and tail pipe put on. That didn’t stop the problem. They said they didn’t know what else it could be. Luckily when I stalled again, I was near another garage. They bored the intake, installed a new fuel pump and an auto shut-off relay. That didn’t solve anything either. Both garages put it on their machines, and neither of them found any codes. I put enough money into it already without solving the problem.
Anyone know what it could be before I have to take it and pay a dealership to check it out?

Hey DAK94OTA
Sorry to hear about your unsolved problem. When it shuts down is it just driving along steady or while decell. Does it start right up again or are you dead in the water and does the engine rpm "go up" slightly as it starts.
Is the gas pedal "sticky" on a cold start???

This may be a long shot but start your vehicle in the driveway and use the "wiggle test" checking your wires.

You may have a short in the wire that plugs into the bottom of your Coil. I heard another person with this problem.

Also want to check the wires on your Crank Sensor. It's on the Pass side top where the transmission bolts to the engine at about the 1 o' clock position. I don't know if the '94 still had the EGR system, If you do the crank sensor is the 2 bolts screwed into your engine under the pipe that connects the rear of the pass exhaust manifolt to the back of the Intake manifold. I had this problem, the wires bounced around with age and the insulation was broken, whenever I would hit a bump just right the wires would short together & kill the engine. But would start right back up.

Pull & check all the terminals on the 3 sensors on your Throttle body, Pull the o2 sensor off the front of the Throttle body and clean the Gunk off the back where it meets the Throttle Body.

Don't wiggle them too hard you may Cause a short, just move them enough like normal driving would.

If your not showing any fault codes, it's going to be hard to trace down the problem.

Give this a try & let us know.
Shank

Is it possible for the crank sensor (or any other sensor) to go bad, without it showing any codes? If so, I think my crank sensor might be my problem.

under the hood about a foot behind the fuse box
on the drivers side fender well.

There is a feeder wire red that connects to 3
other wires take the tape off the harnas and
check this connection.

They like to caroad and lose connection, I have
seen this happen to about 6 trucks that came
through our shop.

It also happend to my 95 I replaced the crank
sensor, pickup in dist and checked everything.

Finaly found this by checking voltage on a pin
on the computer plug don't remember which pin
number off hand but this sounds like your problem.
