Subject: Fog Light Installation Help IP: Logged
Message: Has anyone installed the OEM fog light kit on a Dakota that does not already have fog lights? www.dodgeparts.com has them for $139.62 and includes everything...switch, lights, wiring, etc.
The reason I ask is that when I look on the lot at ones that already have fog lamps, it appears the bumper itself is molded to mount them, I'm afraid that if I cut out the holes in the bumper, there will be no where for the brackets to go anyway. It almost looks like you'd need another bumper which would be stupid! Anyone have experience with this?
Thanks!

Message: I'm working on brackets for my new ones now. I cut holes and put some Pilot Lights in when I got the truck. I just fastened them right to the air damn with a small machine screw and nut because they were light enough. But I got a set of PIAA 510 series now, they're nice and heavy so I'm concocting a bracket or of steel perf strips that will both hold in position well and stongly. Oy...pain in the arse. Is there an easier way?

Message: I hope there is an easier way! When I called the dealer, they wanted $195 to install them. At that point I asked if they needed to replace the bumper in order to have the molded one with the brackets. They swear to me that the kit was created for those not already having the fog lamps and the brackets come with the kit and bolt directly to the bumper? I think I may get the kit so I can see what the deal is. If it looks like too much of a problem, I may just come up with the extra $195 and let them do it. Of course, that would be a hurting on my budget for getting the F&B throttle body! DECISIONS!

Message: o2sxt, I have an 01 SLT CC and I installed the Mopar kit. I didn't have to run the wiring harness because the wiring was already there. I just got the factory headlight switch with foglight switch and put that on.
As for installing the brackets, it's easy. Don't sweat it. I cut the bumper with a 4" hole saw and cleaned it up with a Dremel.

Message: 02SXT, I don't think your truck will have the wiring. Some SLT's have the wiring because most orders are for the SLT Plus package that includes factory fogs. By all means check, though.
I'm going to run my wiring and use it for flood lights on a Westin bush bar.

Message: That's OK about the wiring. One way or the other I'll get that run. My main concern was the cutting out and mounting of the lamps.

Message: Hey I dont know if you are done yet with your fog lamp set up but on my 04 dakota sxt has the same wiring harns as your slt,r/t,and base models
so maybe yours is the same all you have to do is look under the hood over to the left in front of the rad. there is a wire hookup stuck in a temp plug that is your factory fog wire outlet ........

Message: I have an early'98 Dak w/o fog lights. I understand a 4"centered
hole must be cut for installation of lights; however, there are
steel plates behind that area that have two hex nuts that appear
to be 5/32" Does anyone have knowledge of those plates with
any details I should be aware of before I make my light kit
purchase? Thanks for any assistance.
