MY 92 3.9 has a K&N filter " installed when I purchased it" I understand this helps airflow, but looking around I trace the air intake and there is a cover of some sort at the end , to me this looks as if it would restrict air flow?? what is this and will removing it help air flow?

Are you talking about the colver down near the grill? Yes it does slightly restrict airflow, but it keeps bugs and water out. Before i switched over to cowl induction i drove my truck around with that little flap removed and i ended up with tons of bugs and little stones in the air cleaner, no big deal, you just have to clean the filter more often.

yeah, i took mine off too. i think it helps. but it does let some debris into the air cleaner housing. i'd do it again.
