Subject: Cam centerline IP: Logged
Message: Does anyone know what the installed centerline is for the factory cam in the 2001 V6? I am trying to do a little budget blueprinting to establish a performance baseline and not just "line up the dots" with the timing chain.

I don't know how you would adjust the centerline
on a 1 bolt cam, on the B RB we use the 3 bolt
cams with the ecentric a degree wheel and a piston
stop. after set and tight we put a longer bolt in
that hole with a flat and a lock washer. it will
clear the cover in most cases.

Message: Larry thanks for the information, now its time to work the numbers. Degreeing in the small block and V6 with the single cam bolt requires offset keys or keyways. I have purchased the Cloyes street true roller set that has +2* and -2* as well as standard keyways on the crank gear. Mopar Performance offers offset camshaft keys to advance or retard up to five degrees.

Message: Hey FazDak, do you mean the timing set? I am under the impression that P4286500 offset key set will advance or retard the cam gear 1 to 5 degrees. I may not need them and have not ordered them yet, I am going to see where it specs out first.

Message: The keyways on the crank gear are +4 and -4 on the
Cloyes I know that is what I have the doubble
roller and gears in the 0 position with my cam
and it runs very well.
I never thought about it but next time I will
check the centerline on the cam on my V6 Hope
that won't be for a while I only have a little
over 4000 on the stroked motor it had 80,000
when I puled it down for no reason but to stroke
it.
I think the keys are 1 each way. I have never used
one of the offset keys myself.

Message: Sorry for the long delay, this project happens when I have extra time. The Cloyes box indicates that the chain adjusts +/- 2 degrees (typo?) but is still+/- 4 degrees. When I installed the chain it put my cam +2 degrees advanced. I used the m.p. keys to bring it around to center. I did a rough check to find intake centerline, and for the 2001 engine this seems to be 112 degrees. Maybe this is some help to anyone who plans this task in the future. Thanks again everyone.
