When I punch my 99 Dakota into overdrive, it will not shift back until I let up on the gas. The truck will red line before it shifts back. Transmission fluid is ok. Has anyone seen this problem before.

Yes Rick,

I have heard that you need to replace 2 sensors.

Easy work, about $200.

That and a small adjustment of a cable can be related.

Check it in a EZ search under "transmission."

I'm not sure that's a problem. When you punch it it kicks out of overdrive and when you let up it goes back in. What do you think overdrive is?

It does not kick out of overdrive when you stomp on the gas. It goes INTO overdrive and will not shift out of overdrive until you let up on the gas

I think Rick is saying "overdrive" but he means "passing gear" if ya know what I mean.

My personal take on it was that: he floors it, it shifts down, and wont shift up till he lifts, no matter what (redline included).

I have read about that condition before on this forums. A search will set him free!
