Subject: tranny shifts bad after tb install?
IP: Logged

Message:
my tranny will only shift proprly on hard accelaration.it goes through two gears at about 1500 rpm on slow accel and at 2200 on medium.i just put on a v8 tb,but did not change one sensor, the one right on the back of the tb with a 4 pin plug on it.i used the bracket that was on it and my accel cable was only an 1/8 short so i bent on offset in it.the engine runs great and the truck is way faster after 40 mph but i don't think the tranny is in the right gear off the line,it's very slow and holds in one gear to long.is this cause of the sensor or is the downshift cable out a bit.any help would be really great.

the sensor you did'nt replace will be fine, it is the (idle air control valve). What you need to adjust is the trans detent cable, it controls when your shift happens. it is the one coming from the rear pushing forward thru the bracket that holds it. it is hard to explain where to adjust it. but there is a tab to push and the small round housing will then slide thru the plastic cube thing. just play with it until you find your happy spot.

Here is a link to adjust the cable jeff306 was talking about. http://www.jcj.net/dodgeram/trans_adjustment.htm This page is for the Ram but it is the same exact thing on the Dakotas. Just be gentle with the white clip.
