Message: You will need to check it with some evap test equipment, which is pretty expensive so your better off paying a shop. First though i would clear the code and see if it comes back. I don't know exactly which code you found (there are several for incorrect purge flow), but the code can be caused by anything from a loose gas cap, leak in the tank, filler tubes, tank, vapor lines, or charcoal canister. Or one of the vsv's could be bad (there are at least 2 of them). Or it could be a wiring problem, bad ecu or bad sensor. I haven't done any evap stuff on a Dakota but the majority of the evap problems that i see are:
-A loose gas cap or customer filling the tank with vehicle running.
-A stuck closed VSV
-If it had been in an accident i look for damage to the tank and lines.
Out of hundreds of evap problems i have diagnosed i have only found two bad ecu's and one bad canister.
