I don't think there is a "kit" available to put an LS1 in a dak, but if you know how to weld and fabricate you should be able to drop it in with a couple weeks work. You will also need to get his tranny and the engine computer, then you need to sort out all the electrical to make all your gauges work again. Sounds like a fun project. I think if my engine ever blows i am going to drop in a Viper engine.

Cool project, a lot of work though.

Check with http://www.painlessperformance.com for help on the wiring, they may have a wire harness for the LS1.

I read somewhere on this board, one of the guys said he knew a guy down the street with a 350 vette engine and 6 speed stick-shift tranny... I dont remember who though :\

Jon, thatd be awesome to throw in a viper engine... but do ya think you could fit all 10 of those cylinders in there? hehe

I was in Moab, Utah for the "Easter Jeep Safari" and saw a CJ7 Jeep with a Viper engine in it. It was owned by some guy who was on the Philly Eagles football team. The only thing I can say about how it fit in the Jeep is to repeat a comment I overheard;

"If you poored a bucket of water in there, I bet nothing would reach the ground!"

LOL

So if they could get it in a Jeep, why not a Dak!

There is/was a dakota around here with a LT1 swap in it. I never got to see it but it was at all the local shows (trailor queen).

There would be a lot of work to get that in there... and i would admit, if i got a LS1 for $750, i would MAKE it fit. As far as i am concerned, the LS1 is the best engine ever produced... mild bolt ons that you see us magnum owners put on add about twice as much power on a LS1 block. There is a T/A up here that a guy put in a new cam, head work and a ATI twin intercooler s/c kit... results: 579 rwhp. My jaw dropped to the floor when i saw that. My mom's 2000 Z28 hit 307 rwhp with just a flowbastard, k&n filter, taylor wires, and a granetteli MAF meter... and that car being an auto, thats probably about 370 crank hp. Now we have added a SLP loudmouth exhaust and a power programmer and it runs side by side with Z06's. Soon to come are SLP long tube headers, and a cam swap... should be good for about 350 wrhp.

now installing one in a dak would be pretty darn difficult. The easiest part i would say would be doing the required fabrication (but that is still pretty damn hard). If you have ever looked at a engine cradle from a chevy, then you will notice that the engine sits in the frame a lot more awkward then in our trucks. If you get the 6 speed with it, then you might as well just bolt those two together and place it in your truck and just work around it to install it. if i were you, i wouldnt plan on driving the truck for a LONG time. Another thing you will notice is that the starter on chevy's is on the passenger side unlike the one on our drivers side... so that might cut down on some space for exhaust because you already have the steering box in that general area. After you get it in, look at spending a lot of time and money to get the proper wiring for it. It might just be easiest to start saving up and have a professional do that part. The last, hardest thing would be getting headers... nothing already made for the dakota or LS1 would fit in there... so you would have to have a set made or make some yourself.

Now if you can get all that done, i woud be very impressed! Its really gonna be all about time and money.

either way good luck and let us know if you are gonna take that project under!

A chevy motor in a dodge... why? If you want more power in your didge put a dodge v8 in, or fabricate a turbo. C'mon guys! If you want the LS1 motor in a truck buy an s-10.

i would have to say, if anyone turned down a complete 345 hp (corvette) motor for $750, then there is something wrong with them.

if you find it kinda hard to get it in there, then just turn around and sell it for some mopar parts

How Much Would I Be Able To Get Rid Of The LS1 For? Around 3000 im guessing....im beginning to change my mind and am most likely going to get a Mopar 5.9 to save me a lot of trouble....that is so simple compared the the LS1..i think the Vocational School Could Do It....do you think its worth letting those kids work on my truck? after all..it is free labor...right? let me know what you think...
