Message: I'd suggest you check out dodge's website and find the towing capabilities of a current truck with the same setup. Your truck is post 91 so its got the same magnum engine as the new ones have. A big thing for towing easily is not just the weight of the trailer, but the rolling resistance. I've seen a 800lb trailer tow harder than a 4000lb one because the wheel bearings were about shot (and it was a dandom axle, so twice the friction).
Remember, in city and when going through hilly sections take the O/D gear off, as the repeated shifting in and outta O/D with the extra weight can damage your tranny (this is straight from dodge).

Message: I have a 98 4x4[ 3.9 v6] with 3.92 gears and have towed a 2500 lb. saturn 4 door about 150 miles - I turned the OD off and ran it at 45-50 mph at about 2000 to 2200 rpms it was on a tow dolly and we also had 300 lbs of tools and me and my wife[ together we weigh 450 lbs] it was no problem to tow at that speeds and rpms-- it also got 15mpg , the same as it gets driving around town-- - it has auto transmission and a medium size cooler-- it never ran hotter than 200 degrees-- usually runs at 195 degrees-- good luck

Message: I have a 3.9L SXT CC 4x4 Auto with 3.92s. Only mods so far are an Intense Intake and Dynomax exhaust. I pull a 2001 24' 3450lb travel trailer. You rarely know it is there until you hit a steep hill. Max I can go with OD off is 45-50mph up a STEEP hill, but that is plenty in my opinion, and plenty of power.

Message: Sorry to jack the post, but I am trying to get my magnum V6 to tow 2 neons and a trailor. Mostly flatland, but I project that the hills we will take one of the neons out of the trailor and driver it some of the way, but we will see. Do you think braking will be an issue? Also, do you think the Dakota will make it from phoenix to Chicago towing two neons and a trailor?

Message: I have a 97 Club Cab V-6 Dakota with 3.92 gears a large trans cooler and some bolt on mods. I tow a 18 foot car hauler with my 91 Club Cab race truck to tracks as far away as 300 miles, up hills and even the smokey mountains once(slowed down too 40mph). So I would say your Dakota will for sure tow it. I do highly recommend electric trailer brakes on anything of that size no matter what your towing with.

Message: singing neon-- tow 2 neons and a trailer/ how big a trailer? don't the 2 neons weigh over 6000 lbs by themselves? the v6 dakota has a max tow limit of about 6000 lbs--- look in any dakota owners manual orcall any dealer to find out-- - with a big trailer for 2 cars weighing over 2000lbs and 6000 lbs in neons I would say you are risking it-- OD off of course -- drive one neon all the time and tow the other one- you should make it-- I hope you use a big transmission cooler

Message: No, the neons are pretty stripped. Mine weighs in at about 2300lb, and the other person's weight in about 2400lbs. I am thinking of just using a trailor that suspends one, and the other has a set of wheels to the road. Does the V6 magnum come with a tranny cooler? If not, there isn't one on there. Later

Message: I have a 96 v6 auto with 3.55 gears. I regularly tow a race car, equip, and trailer that is about 5000 pounds total with a big tire rack wind catcher. If I remember right, it is rated at 4500 pound towing capacity. I drive in some hills in southern Indiana & Kentucy. 3.92s would sure be nice! With a few mods (injectors, ignition, exhaust, 180 degree thermostat, onboard air compressor, and others) I can keep 65+mph on about any hill I run into in this area with OD off. (Gas milage is about 13mpg towing as long as I stay around 65) I do not recommend towing much weight at all in OD. I got 145000 on the first transmision and am up to 160000 now with no other issues on the truck. Lets see if I can get to the 1/2 million mark on this one too, I had 540,000 on my last truck (Dodge wantabe Ram50 4x4).
