Message: if you want to get about another 5 horsepower out of your gen 1, i did this...
1. cut a hole in the block plate inside the air cleaner assembly just inside of the air filter
2. take the block plate out from behind the grill where the intake tube meets the front of the truck, it is held in by 3 clips, just pop them out with a flat tip screwdriver, to get to it you need to take off the pass side headlight door and loosen or remove the grill, i just loosened it

Message: If you live in an area that does not test emissions, cut off the belt that runs the smog pump. I gained a couple ponies from this! And while you're at it, try taking out the cat. Those old cats are horrible! I gained about 1.5 mpgs from this.

Message: My gen 1 v6 passes atlanta area smog tests with air pump disconnected. Pump must not do a whole lot to keep car running clean.

Message: Hey try going to your closest junkyard and getting a V8 throttle body. Some may even trade you for your old one, but you'll have to probably pay a little boot. You can also try straight pipes off the cats, if you can get by the noise ordinances. I live in Mississippi, so I can get by with no muffler. You can also run with the tailgate down, that'll reduce your drag. On my truck I fabbed out a cold air induction kit for under 20 BUCKS!!! If you want info, e-mail me.

Message: just do like me and cut the pipes off each end and gut the cat.then weld a strait pipe through it, no one will be the wiser, unless you do a crappy job.
