Subject: Need your opinion... IP: Logged
Message: Okay, so I brought my truck over to the shop to see how much JBA headers would cost me installed, he said about $350 to $400 installed depending on how difficult my truck is.
so... he looks at my current exhaust manifold and tells me that I am missing three bolts (I knew that, thats why I wanted the JBA's) but, the bolts have broken off and are inside the block.
I said never mind with the JBA's because by the time he got 2 of the 3 bolts out, he was up to 3 hours labor (at $50 an hour). and to get the other bolt out he would need to take the head off.
should I do it and have him take the top end off, get the bolt on, and maybe add some aftermarket engine stuff while the head is off???
thanks
MM
ohh, I have a club cab, dynomax cat back, K&N airfilter intake....

Message: get about three buddies and an 18 pack of your choice... Start off by downing the first beer. Then take the fender off of the side that has the broken studds (much easier to take the fender off then the head). After the fender, then take the manifold off (now with the fender off you will notice that the exhaust manifold is very easy to get too. Now send one of your buddies that hasnt drinken as much to get a tap set from autozone (should be able to rent them). Drink your friends beer while he is gone. Comes back and let him do the work because the rest of you are too drunk to plug in the extension cord for the drill. but seriously... thats gonna be the easiest way to do it. Just drill and tap them out from the side with no fender on. With all this going on, i would still order the JBA's because they look much better... and if you have the manifolds off you might as well put the jba's on. remember, its all nuts and bolts... if you cant turn a wrench to the left or right, then you got problems.

Message: Thanks for the reply.
but I should have said this ealier.
The shop that I took it to, while I sat and watched, and talked and joked with the guy, he was drilling with the fender off just as you described, but, he kept on braking the drill bits, although we didn't try to tap it out.

Message: Get some left hand drills it works better and
a lot of times as you step up in size the stud

You slam me the other day for drinkin and chattin but you can drink and drill!!! lol
Sounds like that guy hasnt drilled into hard metal with small drill bits before, it does take a little skill to not get the bit in a bind and snap it.
