Ok guys, I am a dodge neon owner, so I feel that we have somethings in common. But, in July there is a GIANT neon gathering in Belvedere, Illinois and am looking to get my 2001 Dakota V6 3.9 magnum 2WD to tow two dodge neons in a trailor. The combined weight of the trailor with the cars in it should be about 5000lbs, then with all our stuff and ourselves, I am gu-estimating the total weight the truck may have to pull is 6000lbs. Can it do this? I will have to go up hills, then hit flat land going through the midwest and then up to Belvedere near Chicago. Will it make it? I know that I am going to have to change the oil and what not. But my main concern is if the Dakota will be able to tow this much weight and if it will NOT die doing so. I know that if it does, then the warranty will help, but I don't want it to die. Can you guys please help me out.

Thanks
Stephen, neon driver

I would check the tow rating printed on the drivers door label. The truck will pull that much weight but your tow rating is not based on engine power, but on your suspension and braking systems ability to control that weight. You might be able to tow it up the hill no problem, but when you go down the hill on the other side things could get scary.

Your GVW total is around 8000 pounds.

So... Truck is 3800... Trailer is 1000... that leaves you 3200 more pounds to add to the total.

In other words: One Neon & your gear.

The truck will do two I bet, but two Neons would put you past your GVW rating.

Sometimes ya just got to say "what the heck" though 'eh.
