Subject: Lug Nuts?

Message:
I just got my new tires today, and I had to get new lug nuts, has anyone else had this problem, the water had gotten traped inside of the nut and rusted it from the inside.
o-well, I guess I need to have lug nuts.

Use high temp brake grease (it's very sticky and clings well) to lightly coat the threads on your wheel studs before putting the lug nuts on. That way you not only prevent corrosion and the related bullshlt you also get way more accurate torque readings when you torque the nuts down.

Neverseize is a much better product for this problem, as grease can and sometimes does allow the lugnut to work loose, Neverseize does not allow this to happen, but the idea is spot on.

20 years and never lost a lug nut yet. Nuts torqued to 100lb/ft won't fall off.

I've had lugnuts loosen up from to much antiseize, and the nuts were rammed on with a 600ftlb impact gun. I just use a light coating of oil.

I go for lock tight too. I lost a lug nut, and damn near a wheel. I think someone messed with it at a past construction site I was working at! But my forman saw me drive away with a screwy wheel and called me before it went bad. Anyways, lock tight, a little just on the end of the lug, has worked well for me.

Anyone know of a good lug wrench out there? I have amer. racing wheels and the stock wrench is too big to fit into the llug hole on the wheel. I have seen this "gorilla" wrench around. Anybody have expierence with it? Thanks

You can get thin-wall lugnut sockets that work great with aftermarket rims. Harbor Freight has them pretty cheap. Lock-tite is a pretty good idea, i will prevent corrosion also, just use the blue not the red :)
