Well 40 is alot louder inside the cab and outside as well. The 50 series is little softer and has a deeper sound to it. I guess it all depends on what you want from your exhaust.

I just had the flowmaster 50 installed on my 97 V6 Dakota. I am impressed by the sound. I think 40 would be too loud

Over time the 50 series tends to get even lower rumble. Most people think I have a V-8.
Wouldn't want any other!
