Subject: can output speed sensor trip code P0740
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 97 dakota 3.9 with auto trans. High mileage. It runs like a champ.

Several months ago I had the check engine light come on. I forgot the code, but in the book it said something to the effect of output shaft sensor. As it ran fine, I just turned out the light with no repairs. Now, periodically (about every 1,500 mi) I get P0740. The code says torque converter. My fluid is clean and red, at full line, not leaking, shifts smooth. No slippage, no bucking...In sum---no problems.

Could my output speed sensor be tripping the P0740 code? Are they in the same circuit?

All help greatly appreciated.

Paul
