Message: I have a 2002 SXT auto with the 3.9L It's bone stock with 18,000 miles on it. Just today it's doing this thing when i start it it'll rev up to about 1500 RPM's and instead of settling back in at 700 like usually it drops down to 300 or 400 and almost dies. I've never had any trouble, could it just be time for a tune up? thank for the help

Message: Just yesterday I bought a '96 318 auto with 86,000 miles on it and today it's doing the same thing. The other thing I did was run it up briefly over 2,000 RPM's and it dropped to 200 and did actually die. Before buying it I took it on a 150+ mile test drive with many starts and stops and never observed the problem once. Today it's raining heavily (where the test drive was all sunshine) and maybe wondering electrical/ignition (cracked distributor maybe). Really a buzz kill on a new purchase!

Message: I've put all but 3 of the 18,484 miles on my truck and it's never had a problem idling. It's kinda ironic, i finally found these cool web sites about my truck and i'm all excited about working on it and then this happens... Damn thing wants to stay stock it seems. haha

Message: My truck does the same exact thing. It does die once in a blue moon. It also does the same thing when I go from drive to park. But from what I've heard on this site is that a lot of the v6's idle poorly. I've had my truck since 17000 miles. 47000 now. Has done it the whole time. Even after tune ups.

Message: Hey, I was just outside tinkering with my truck and I had the air filter removed (it looked fairly gummed up) I tried starting it while it was just sucking open air and it started up just fine. When i put the filter back in it started weird again. I think I found my problem thanks
